As the Creative Director for Cardiac Signaling Lab, my primary responsibility is to oversee the creative vision of the brand. I work closely with the lab's research team to ensure that our innovative methods and findings are effectively communicated to our audience through various mediums such as visual and digital media, presentations, and publications. My role is crucial in translating the technical aspects of our research into clear and compelling visual and creative communications that are accessible to our target audience.
BRAND STORY
Innovating to Understand the Heart's Dynamic Power
Cardiac Signaling Lab understands the heart's importance in sustaining life and sees it as an engine that powers our bodies. By utilizing experimental and innovative methods, we strive to better understand the dynamic muscle and signaling mechanisms of the heart. Comprised of experts in the field, our team is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the heart's complex signaling pathways to develop new therapies and treatments for those with heart disease. At Cardiac Signaling Lab, we are proud to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research and innovation in the field of cardiology.
Logo
As cardiac research is the main focus of the lab, the logo includes a heart and the letters CS, which is short for Cardiac Signaling. We also visualized the ebb and flowing nature of the ocean when designing the logo. The logo elements represent the fluidity of the heart, and the positive and negative spaces create depth, just like the dynamic ocean waves.
Color Palette
Vibrant colors represent the energy of the heart. To visualize the idea, the blue tone represents an increase in tension/load on the heart. As Ca2+ and other elements are produced in tones of red and purple, it brings warmth and balance to the cardiovascular system. The warmth also represents the heart, whereas the cool tones bring in the dynamic connection with the ocean.
Typography
We landed on a very clean and modern font to show the integrity and innovation
of the lab. The ocean is seen as a refreshing, serene place by many, so keeping the
typography simple helps to give space for the research findings to take center
stage.
By utilizing our tools and resources at our agency, we customized and rendered a 3D cardiovascular system. The cooler tone on the right represents an increase in tension/load on the heart. As Ca2+ and other elements are produced in the form of colorful smoke, it brings warmth and balance to the cardiovascular system. The design was featured in the Journal of Physiology in April 2020.
Design
The research at Cardiac Signaling Labs drives innovation and we wanted to do the same with the visual options to showcase the research. We utilized our visual identity guidelines and the visualizations by Cardiac Signaling Lab to bring the research alive and make it more interactive.
To tie everything together with our work on presenting Cardiac Signaling Lab’s research, we continuously collaborate with our client to create a website. We weave the visual identity guidelines with their innovative research findings to bring engagement to the original research they are doing.
